The Postal Modern Theatrette returns to Growing Fins! I tried to have it over on my book blog but it just didn’t feel like the right place for it. This is mostly a catch-up post of the past year (and maybe a little bit beyond that!)
- Since 2022 I’ve been on a very slow journey of watching my way through most of the Star Trek life action series (I intended to do a TOS rewatch but Netflix discontinued streaming all Star Trek). I’ve been a lifelong Star Trek fan from the TOS era as a kid (Spock was my first crush, tbh) to TNG, Voyager and DS9 as a teen/person in her early twenties. But between the spotty scheduling of terrestrial television (back in the days when you’d pay for a tv licence!) and going through first law school and then grad school, I missed a lot. So my journey via Netflix was both a watch and a rewatch. I already had most of TNG on original box sets that I purchased while in Australia, and am in the process of acquiring the rest from other series now that I have a working DVD player again. I finished watching TNG, Enterprise, DS9 and finally in January, Voyager. It’s been a very emotional and comforting journey. I’ve now returned to a non-streaming rewatch of Ds9 and will likely get to Lower Decks soon. And I cannot gush enough about Starfleet Academy. The last two episodes had me bawling my eyes out.
- Ds9 requires a special entry because my rewatch is so emotional right now. I’ve watched all of the life action Trek series but have come to the conclusion that DS9 is my favourite Trek. It’s the one with the ending that really managed to do what a good ending should do. And Sisko has beat Picard in being my favourite Star Trek captain of all time.
- I say all of the live action because I’ve not watched Lower Decks, Prodigy and only watched some of the original animated series from back in the day. It’s always good to have new Trek to watch!!!
- Elementary: One of my watching highlights of 2025 was this series and I was majorly jonesing for it after it was over. It’s really nice to watch a cozy mystery series with a devoted partnership not rooted in romance. A refreshing change!
- The Vampire Diaries and The Originals: I finished watching all of The Vampire Diaries sometime in 2024, but The Originals only returned to streaming recently so I’m now resuming watching the series. I’m just hooked on this world.
- The Witcher: Between November-December 2025 I had my semi-annual rewatch of The Witcher. I also enjoyed season 4 against my own reservations. No one can be Cavill as Witcher but I like the sweetness of Hemsworth’s interpretation. And I thought it was a good season overall.
- Stranger Things: One of the most special things about the past New Year was watching Stranger Things with millions of other viewers around the world. An event that required diet soda, popcorn (sugar-free) and of course, Eggo waffles. My watch and rewatch of Stranger Things remains quite special to me. I thought they stuck the landing on the ending no matter what naysayers say. Oh and it’s finally had me saying: this is the year I finally play Dungeons and Dragons (which I’ve been wanting to do since I was a broke and isolated teenager). Not broke now, but not exactly un-isolated. Still, I reckon I’ll have fun playing it solo once I get a starter kit. Since I’m spending more and more time offline, indulging in a solo TTRPG might be just what’s needed.
- Apart from re-watching DS9, I’ve finally embarked on a journey of watching Stargate SG-1, which for some reason I never got around to doing. Enjoying it thusfar.
- Andor, season 2: This was the tv series highlight of 2025 for me. Andor for me remains nonpareil and I have many thoughts about it and what it means at this stage of our world history. But that’s for another venue.
- I keep meaning to mention the amazing third season of The Gilded Age last year especially because of the glimpse of African-American history. I just want a spin-off series just about the African American characters as the MCs.
- For this year, I have really enjoyed the first half of Bridgerton season 4 but we all know Violet’s the MVP of this season, right?
There are other bits and bobs that I’ve been watching (and I’ve probably forgotten a lot!*) but I’ll save it for other posts, now that the Postal Modern Theatrette is back where it belongs!
*Feb 9 edit because of those things I forgot.
