As always, a mostly incomplete list because I can never remember everything.
Current Fixations:
Recently, my fixation watch in relation to tv series is the Hawaii Five-O reboot. I started watching it years ago when it was on one of the channels with my Unifi subscription but as always with non-streaming tv, it was all in bits and pieces. Well, Netflix got the first five seasons of it and it was a great way to move on from my LOST and Person of Interest withdrawals. I guess Hawaii Five O is strongly part of what I call the “LOST continuum” shows. OUAT is another one as was the unfairly abrogated Revolution (I still think it deserved more seasons). Currently on the second season of Hawaii Five-O: Locke (aka Terry O’Quinn) has entered the room. I literally squealed. Looking forward to Hurley joining the cast later on.
Person of Interest was great although really eerie in terms of how it relates to the current apocalyptic state of our world. I started watching it fresh out of my grand rewatch of LOST. It filled that gap really well and I grew very emotionally connected to the characters. It’s also not always that a show has a protagonist with nearly the same kind of spinal issues that I have and I really appreciated that and how Emerson really gave that role his all. As for LOST, well, it is one of the shows I need to rewatch every other year or so. I’m never bored of it. I’m even reconciled to THAT ENDING. It grows on you.
Another fixation: my current rewatch of the X-Files. Same deal as with most terrestrial tv shows I watched in my youth. The seasons are not always consistently showed. Also, after awhile both law school and grad school (literature) took over my concentration. This time I’m determined to watch every season in sequence. It has aged remarkably well and in my advanced years (!!) I notice and appreciate many things about Mulder and Scully’s interactions that I maybe did not notice before.
Series that blew my mind lately:
- House of the Dragon season 3. I mean, protect all the dragons at all costs please (Yes, I’m reading Fire and Blood so I know that’s not possible),
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — I loved season 4 so much I can’t stand it. I’m so sad the next season will be its last!
Other tv shows less consistently watched:
My on again-off-again rewatch of OUAT (I love it, it’s just that these days I’m in more of a police procedural and spy show kind of mood. That’s related to the space operas I’m currently writing, honestly. Cop shows are helping me think about pacing in a whole different way.)
Speaking of spy shows, I’ve fallen into a rhythm of watching Alias with my lunches. I don’t know why. Something about the pairing of Nasi Padang (or banana leaf rice) with Alias works for me.
Circling Back (at some point):
- I feel I can’t give Sullivan’s Crossing enough justice right now given my current preferences.
- I’ve also left my rewatch of The Originals and Grimm for a bit. I’ll probably circle back.
- Also on the circling back list is The Last of Us even though I think it’s brilliant. I feel with some shows I just want to wait until I can give it my full attention which is not possible with my current wave of fixation watches.
- I’m not sure if I bounced off Stargate or if it’s just not the right time for me to watch it. Ditto with The Expanse which I started years ago and never got back to watching. There are just so many shows, and so little time!
On my “next to watch” list:
- I’m excitedly waiting for the third season of The Rings of Power and am likely to go all batshit over it.
- I’ve heard so many good things about Ride or Die and am looking forward to watching it although bummed it has not been renewed.
- Widow’s Bay — see above. Looking forward to see if it lives up to the hype.
- I bingewatched the first season of The Gentlemen when it first came out and am looking forward to doing that for the second season once I get some brainspace and probably a long weekend. It’s such a great show!
- We’re getting closer and closer to the next seasons of Bridgerton and The Gilded Age! Stoked! Railway Daddy cannot return to our screens soon enough.
- I’ll probably watch The Boroughs in December.
A new thing that has happened this year: taking up embroidery. This has enhanced my tv-watching experience because I’ll be happily working on embroidery while watching shows (pausing when I need to thread needles, though. Because I’m an old lady with multifocals). Needless to say, that’s my happy place.
